In a world where boundaries and borders mean less and less every day, AIDS is a stark reminder of the need for domestic and international cooperation. For too long, America and the world have faced this epidemic divided and frightened. Today we must all pledge to work together on the research and prevention programs that will make the AIDS epidemic a part of our past. Here at home, we honor the American heroes -- families, communities, scientists and doctors who have confronted the AIDS crisis when others turned away. And we pledge to them a future in which their leaders join them in the fight against AIDS, and work together to provide quality, affordable health care to every American. With prayers for those who are sick and those who have died, thanks to those who struggle and a renewed commitment to fighting this terrible illness, let us make this World AIDS Day the beginning of the end of the epidemic. -30-30-30-
