Ron Buckmire

Ron Buckmire is the founder of the Queer Resources Directory (QRD), the largest and oldest website on gay/lesbian/bisexual/transgender/AIDS issues available on the Internet, the world-wide computer network. Ron was born May 21, 1968 in Grenville, Grenada and in 1994 received his PhD in Applied Mathematics from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in Troy, New York. His memberships include the ACLU, NOW, HRC, NGLTF, EDF, NAACP, LLDEF, IGLHRC, People for the American Way, Greenpeace and Amnesty International. His interests include public radio, chess and the law. Ron is a World Chess Federation FIDE Master and a United States Senior Master. He is also a contributing producer for THIS WAY OUT, the international lesbian and gay radio magazine, heard weekly in 8 countries on 90 stations. In 1996, he joined the Board of Directors of PlanetOut and the International Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission. He runs the mailing lists Marriage, GGBB, QueerLaw, QueerPlanet, GLBPOC, glbMATH, QI (Queer Immigration), QueerPolitics and HomoRadio.

Ron lives in Eagle Rock with his lover of 6 years, Dean Elzinga, a professional opera singer (bass-baritone). He teaches mathematics at Occidental College, a nationally-ranked, multicultural liberal arts college situated in Northeast Los Angeles.
